"I have often said that the lure of flying is the lure of beauty. That the reasons flyers fly, whether they know it or not, is the aesthetic appeal of flying."

— Amelia Earhart

I couldn't agree more. There are many reasons to fly, but the beauty of Earth seen from above is captivating and it seems to lure many pilots into the sky. I have been flying paragliders for the past 10 years and have found that this passion for flight has built an even greater passion for capturing moments I've shared with friends in the skies over beautiful spaces.

I have been interested in photography since high school where I took a couple of black and white film classes. Later, I attended KU's graphic design school where I took a couple more classes in photography including black and white film and color slide photography.

I have always taken my camera on my travelling adventures, but it wasn't until I recieved my first digital camera in the spring of 2003 that I began shooting avidly. It was the Canon PowerShot S40 4 megapixel camera. I found instant gratification reviewing shots on the computer the same day I had taken them. On top of that, Photoshop became my digital darkroom where I had complete control over my images. I didn't have to settle anymore for prints that were too dark, too light, or too expensive. The ability to shoot as many shots as you want without spending a cent promotes a much greater use of the camera and greater experimentation. The digital camera opens so many possibilites to control the outcome of your photography.

I began taking the camera with me while paragliding and found that it helped me relax during flight. During flight, when the air is relatively smooth, I look through the viewfinder on each shot to compose the image. Taking photos during flights has come to be a pleasant distraction while gliding between mountain peaks and offered a chance to review my flights after landing. It has also become a great way to share my flights with friends and educate my students.

I currently fly with the Canon PowerShot S70, which is an 8 megapixel camera.

Please enjoy the images I've gathered over the past 3 years and send me an e-mail on your thoughts. All images can be printed as greeting cards or wall hangings. E-mail or call me on pricing at 805-403-5848.
